– Root canals and cancer… the root of SOME evil?

In November, 2013, I was diagnosed with 9 leptomeningeal brain metastases and given weeks to live. Chemo and radiation weren’t really an option. I did three naturopathic things and, within 6 weeks, 4 of them, including the largest tumor, were gone without a trace. The focus of this post is root canals.

A basic premise in most naturopathic anti-cancer protocols is that you must switch your body’s ph from acid to alkaline. I had done everything I could to make myself alkaline, but for the previous 6 years, I could only influence my saliva. My urine constantly tested at 5, dangerously acidic. I read that it was a sign of a chronic infection but I had no symptoms. I began to suspect my teeth.

I had heard a theory that root canals were tied to cancer, as well as many other chronic diseases. The theory is that if you leave any portion of a dead or dying tooth and then cap it, it is nearly impossible to sterilize and decay continues. Thus a perfect environment for bacteria to thrive is created, complete with it’s own blood supply. Toxins are released from the bacteria which leach into other areas of the body. Root canals are linked to a number of systemic health issues including: cardiovascular disease, inflammation, diseases of the brain and nervous system, lowered immunity, diabetes, and cancer. Most root canals harbor chronic low-grade infections that depress your immune system, create a chronically acidic state, and trigger a cascade of protein reactions that can result in cancer. They have examined root canals that were removed and found 47 different kinds of bacteria.

I had just been diagnosed with the leptomets and I happened to see a study that 97% of terminal cancer patients have had a root canal, usually on the same side as their cancer (Note that this is NOT the same as saying that 97% of people with root canals will get cancer). I had a root canal, and it happened to be a couple of inches from the largest tumor in my parietal lobe. With weeks to live, I figured… what do I have to lose? Pull the sucker out!

When I had the tooth removed, the biological dentist exclaimed, “…and there it is!”. What?, I asked. “The infection! I’ve never removed a root canal and not found an infection.” And I had had NO symptoms… but there it was.

3 weeks later, 4 mets including the nearby largest tumor were completely gone. Doctors had no explanation. Coincidence? Perhaps some sort of toxic load/barrier to healing was removed so my body could finally start fighting the cancer without one hand tied behind it’s back?

They offered me a $5000 implant to replace the tooth. Since I didn’t know if it was going to work and the dire diagnosis still stood, I declined. Who needs beautiful teeth when they’re dead, right? Now, I proudly rock the hillbilly look of my missing tooth. I wear it as a badge of honor because I believe it helped me kick the brain mets.

If you have bone mets and are on a bisphosphonate, such as Zometa, it may not be practical for you to have a problem tooth removed because of the danger of osteonecrosis. I stopped Zometa for 6 months when I had mine done. But, I urge you to stay on top of your dental health as it may be affecting your ability to defeat cancer. If you do feel it is necessary to have a root canal (sometimes it is the only way to save a tooth), please consult a naturopathic, or biological, dentist as they are very familiar with the issue of root canals and have perfected techniques that increase the likelihood of successful sterilization (see below to find a biological dentist in your area). If you are in the Seattle area, I heartily recommend Dr. Mitch Marder, a biological dentist who is very knowledgable about these issues.

One thing I recommend regardless of the state of your dental health is Ayurvedic oil pulling. This ancient technique is credited with clearing up dozens of maladies and improving overall immune strength and health by killing pathogens and removing toxins. There are nay-sayers but I can report real results… my chronic and very serious gum disease that I’ve battled for decades has completely disappeared. Basically, I put a spoonful of oil in my mouth and keep it there for at least 20 minutes, swish and spit, and rinse with hot water. I use coconut oil because of it’s anti-bacterial properties and because I prefer the taste.

As always, I am not a medical doctor. I am only sharing my path… Stage IV, tumors everywhere, dire prognoses of imminent death two different times, currently NED (no evidence of disease). I do so in the hopes that you may find something that resonates with you on the path you have chosen. Here are some interesting links for you to find out more. Dr. Weston Price is the researcher who has primarily brought this to the attention of the medical establishment. Bless you all on the path you choose…

Thank you for sharing. You may wish to try oil-pulling. Also, this… I make my own toothpaste out of coconut oil, baking soda (which also kills germs and increases the alkalinity of your mouth), stevia, and peppermint oil.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I was told by several dentists I needed 4 root canals in spring of 2014. I did my research and found an alternative to root canals – it’s called Biodentine. I found a dentist in Costa Rica who was willing to put it in December 2015. I don’t know if it will keep the teeth in good shape long term, but it’s working for the moment. Because no USA dentist would help me my teeth degraded as I was searching for someone to put it in. The interesting thing is this – if Biodentine works to save my teeth at that stage of near-death – where frankly even dentists experienced with Biodentine were refusing to put it in – that means that almost no root canals are needed, because they do root canals way before the teeth get to the stage mine were. So root canals are just a money making racket. Imagine if you went to a doctor and you needed your forearm amputated, so they killed your entire arm, left the upper part on you – dead – and then put a fake forearm on. Who would ever want that? Why wouldn’t they just put a fake forearm and leave the rest of the arm alive and see how it goes? Then if it doesn’t work, remove the rest of the arm, but don’t leave the dead body part. Biodentine should be tried before root canal because it’s logical. If the Biodentine fails then extract. There should be no root canals done. Anyway, thanks for the informative post! for anyone interested I went to Dr. Vargas who is near San Jose, Costa Rica.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I hope you don’t mind but I am going to share this on my Facebook page.I couldn’t find you as a Facebook friend and I’d like you to be. Please friend me. I’m assuming you got to this post via a Facebook page? I’m also going to ask my naturopathic dentist what he thinks about it and if anyone in the states uses it. Thanks again.

I wonder if the biodentine can be implemented after a root canal is removed? Great post.
I have 3 root canals and multiple tumors in both breasts. I would love to be rid of them.

Do you oil pull daily? Is the oil just held in place on the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 20 minutes? Is it a teaspoon / tablespoon?
